Pre School Program: What Your Child Will Learn in Preschool

Bible
Your child will learn some of the most precious and recognizable stories in the Bible, such as Noah and the ark and David and Goliath.  Also, your child will be introduced to Jesus as God’s one and only Son.  They will learn that Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’ birth and that Easter is the celebration of Jesus’ death on the cross which brought salvation.

Language Arts
Your child will be introduced to how God uses language to connect His children.  Reading, writing, speaking, and listening will be emphasized as children learn to recognize and write letters of the alphabet, understand that letters produce sounds and are formed into words, and appreciate that books communicate messages to readers.  Concepts of rhyme will be reinforced through the use of traditional nursery rhymes, poems, and songs.  In addition, your child will be encouraged to use language purposefully to communicate with his or her peers, teachers, and family.  Specific emphasis will be given to ensuring that your child can recognize and write his/her first and last name and can recite and identify the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet by the time that he or she leaves preschool.

Mathematics
Your child will have the opportunity to begin sorting and classifying the world by development of his/her mathematical reasoning skills.  Looking for and completing patterns, sorting objects by their attributes (color, shape, size, etc.), and grouping objects will build the strong foundation for future math success.  In addition to reasoning, your child will have the opportunity to count and measure his/her environment.  Special emphasis will be given to counting by rote up to 20, identifying and writing numbers 0-10, and constructing groups to match a given number.

Science
Your child will learn that God created and sustains the physical world around us.  They will learn to observe and describe things such as weather, animals, and plants.  In addition they will learn about our wonderful bodies and how to keep them safe and healthy.

Social Studies
Your child will have the chance to see how God intends for His most marvelous creation, people, to interact and live together.  The ideas of family and community will be introduced as children learn that rules are necessary for us to all get along together.  They will learn that God created us with basic needs and that He provides for those needs through His creation, as well as through giving people talents and abilities to produce things.  They will also learn that God gave us a bigger community called our country, and that symbols such as the American flag represent us.  Special emphasis will be given to learning to recite the Pledge of Allegiance by memory.
